Died April 15, 1880 at the
residence of her husband, Noah R. Evans, Groveland, Putnam County, Indiana Mrs.
Mary Ellen Evans aged 38 years 2 months 5 days. She lived as the wife of Mr. NR
Evans 20 years 10 months and 3 days. She left behind a bereaved husband and
three children, aged respectively 19, 9 and 7 years and a circle of
sympathizing relatives and friends to mourn her untimely taking form this to a
higher and brighter sphere beyond the dark river. She was raised in the ME
Church and was always ready and willing to aid in all movements tending to the
advancement of a Christian’s work and her hand was ever open to aid in acts of
charity and needy and afflicted. May we hope this family chain thus severed may
be reunited in a better world.
